Took a couple of days to actually get it set up, but here we are! Let's start off with a few questions to get to know each other...

How long have you been in Seattle?

Why did you move to Seattle?

Where in Texas are you from?

How long did you live in Texas?

Why did you leave Texas?

Is there anything about Texas you miss?

What do you like most about Seattle?

Any good Texas-related finds we should know about?

What are some interests we should put onto our userinfo page?

Anything else you'd like to tell us?

Have any questions?

How long have you been in Seattle?
About three weeks

Why did you move to Seattle?
I have just completed a master's degree from the University of California, Irvine and my husband and I couldn't afford to continue living there, so we moved here.

Where in Texas are you from?
I'm from El Paso.

How long did you live in Texas?
22 years.

Why did you leave Texas?
To go to graduate school

Is there anything about Texas you miss?
There's a lot that I miss, but not enough to warrant return. I really miss my friends from my alma mater (UNT)

What do you like most about Seattle?
I'll have to get back to you on that one. So far the people have been really friendly to me, and my husband and I have faced far less discrimination here than we did in Texas.

I'm not sure if I miss Denton *that* much, but when I think about it, it had a pretty awesome college culture that was completely absent from Orange County...

I miss Recycled Books, Sonic, football, and people who know how to drive...

Hey there!! I'm Marley- I've been in Seattle for two years now, moved up here to go to UW. I was born in Dallas, moved to Hurst, and then Azle (right around Ft. Worth)! I lived there until I was 14, moved to Spokane (for family stuff) and then back to Texas for one year.

As much as I hate to admit it, I miss the rednecks, the big trucks, the Okra, the sweet tea, Sonic, Whataburger, Big Red pop, everything being called coke- no matter what kind of drink it was, and Ann Richards.

I love the people of SEattle, the recycling, the fresh air, the mountains- everything!!

Hi, and thanks for setting up this community; it'll be interesting to see what we all have in common.

1. We've been here 10 1/2 months.

2. We moved to Seattle because after spending a month touring Japan last summer, we decided it was time to strike out after new horizons. Amazon made my fiance an offer we couldn't refuse, so here we are.

3. I lived in Austin 9 1/2 years.

4. I was tired of 106 degree heat in late September, and though we love our friends, we were stagnating professionally. He's in high tech; I'm a reformed lawyer.

5. We still get homesick sometimes, and I miss my close friends, Tex-Mex, barbeque, juggling, my book club, muay thai kickboxing, playing Japanese mah jong on Sunday afternoons . . . .

6. Seafood! Mountains! Water! More mountains! Hiking! New friends! Uwajimaya! Planning our wedding in Seattle! Neighborhood Ace hardware stores! Neighborhoods themselves (we live in Magnolia -- mmmm, Mondello's!) Working on our house! But, ugh, I'm not ready for our second winter -- can anyone recommend the best dawn simulator?!?!

San Antonio

How long did you live in Texas?
About six years

Is there anything about Texas you miss?
Taco Cabana, good margaritas, cheap Mexican food made by someone's abuelita, family-like activist scene, the Pig Stand....um, so mostly the food, I guess.

What do you like most about Seattle?
All the green, mountains, bands actually stopping here, and lakes.

Any good Texas-related finds we should know about?
nuh-uh! not yet, at least

What are some interests we should put onto our userinfo page?
San Antonio, El Paso, Houston, Dallas, Austin, South by Southwest, SXSW, tejano, fiesta, taco cabana, heb

Hey Ya'll!

How long have you been in Seattle?
2 year in January

Why did you move to Seattle?
I was living in Dallas at the time...isn't that reason enough?
And a girl....hmm, wish I'd thought that one through.

Where in Texas are you from?
Houston, then Austin, the Dallas. I identify most with Austin.

How long did you live in Texas?
17 Years

Why did you leave Texas?
Time for a change, and the summers really destroyed me. I really missed the mountins of my extream youth in Denver.

Is there anything about Texas you miss?
Tex-Mex, the freindly people, my buddies, the motorcycle racing scene.

What do you like most about Seattle?
Location, location, location. Olimpics, Cascades and the Sound, who could ask for more....and the progressive politics (but not the passive-agressive voters)

Any good Texas-related finds we should know about?
Hmmm....Goymas has the best Mexican I've found so far.

What are some interests we should put onto our userinfo page?
Tex-Mex, BBQ, friendly-folks, Shiner Bock, boots.

Anything else you'd like to tell us?

I'm stoked there are so many former Texans up here. I will always miss the people I've met in Texas.

Have any questions?

Shiner Bock is a good one.

I've found it for sale in some Safeways and they have it in bottles at the weird Shorty's circus bar thing in Belltown. (:

How long have you been in Seattle? 2.5 weeks, yay!

Why did you move to Seattle? better odds of finding a job plus falling for a calvinist (quite a few of them up here for some reason...)

Where in Texas are you from? houston

How long did you live in Texas? off and on for 18 years or so.

Why did you leave Texas? houston has a stagnant vibe and way too many titty bars and i also wanted to go somewhere i wouldn't be tempted to dance (seattle sucks for exotic dancing).

Is there anything about Texas you miss? the titty bar subculture. yay ambivalence! also the space and the room and the low low prices for great food. i really miss the eating in houston. seattle just doesn't compare unless you make it yourself (quality ingredients at sane prices are much easier to come by here of course). also texas is home, always. seattle is just a pretty place to live for a while.

What do you like most about Seattle? the locally-raised foods thing. trying to get that going in houston for non-yuppies is such a task, since houston is a cool 10k sq miles almost. also the beer. i like beer.

Any good Texas-related finds we should know about? i like aqua verde in the u district by the water, but it's not texan quite. it is more mexican. still, close enough. also there is a wonderful brazilian place on the ave that reminds me of the ones i went to in houston.

Have any questions? is it normal for seattlites to say hi to you endlessly and randomly talk to you in bars? that happens to me more than somewhat, which doesn't jibe with the 'seattlites never talk to no-one!' thing i heard before moving here.

Tempero do Brasil? I LOVE THAT PLACE. The vibe is so laid back and the food is amazing.

I find that people in Seattle -don't- talk to each other. I had to start my own livejournal community at first to make new friends. It worked out because now I know some quality people. :) I'm all about debauchery. If you want to find it, let me know. :)

How long have you been in Seattle?
This time around since last April and before that from birth until age 25. (No, I'm not a native-born Texan, hope this doesn't disqualify me from the group.)

Why did you move to Seattle?
To help out my mom who is disabled and to jump-start a stalled-out career in libraries. I burned myself out working 3 jobs in 4 locations for 3 years straight.

Where in Texas are you from?
Austin, and I'm a Texas-Ex too.

How long did you live in Texas?
8 years

Why did you leave Texas?
Pretty much for the same reasons I gave for moving to Seattle plus I got tired of the heat and humidity. Then there are the bugs which I won't get into right now.

Is there anything about Texas you miss?
Lots! I made some very good friends while I was living there. I also miss Mexican Martinis from Trudys, Movies at Alamo Drafthouse, Elysium, (The only goth-oriented club in Austin.) Reubens and Cosmos at Katz's, Fonda San Miguel, (The best Sunday brunch ever.) BBQ, (Artz Rib House and Stubbs are a couple of my favorites.)St.Arnold's beers (Lawnmower Ale is my favorite) and less traffic.

What do you like most about Seattle?
More tolerant and progressive than the South, (Not so many foaming at the mouth fundamentalists running around here.) Value Village (Thrift stores in Austin were definately lacking.) Teryaki, More goth-oriented club options, Weather, Mountains, No "Palmetto Bugs" and being closer to my family.

Any good Texas-related finds we should know about?
I've seen Shiner Bock at Fred Meyer and Stubbs BBQ Sauces and Meat Marinades at QFC.

What are some interests we should put onto our userinfo page?
Have to get back to you on that one.

Anything else you'd like to tell us?
For the first time in 8 years I'm wearing shoes with socks in October!

Have any questions?
So when are we all going to get together and meet one another?

How long have you been in Seattle?
4.5 years...lived in Tacoma then got into grad school and moved to Seattle.
Why did you move to Seattle?
See above...but in general I had a dream that I belonged here...it feels right...not as right as Texas feels but it's pretty close.
Where in Texas are you from?
Austin...the "liberal hotbed" of Texas
How long did you live in Texas?
Born and raised.
Why did you leave Texas?
Work...and a quarter-life crisis to find myself.
Is there anything about Texas you miss?
-My family of course
-The fact that people get me and my language and don't make fun of the fact that I say "y'all" alot.
-Taco Cabana...not the best quality but the food tastes right...not as bland as they make it up here...
What do you like most about Seattle?
Music scene...progressive thinking.
Any good Texas-related finds we should know about?
None yet but I'm curious about Two Gringos from Texas, where's that at?
What are some interests we should put onto our user info page?
When Texas bands come to Seattle, if they do...I haven't heard of any but bands like Vallejo or even non-texan groups as long as their good.
Anything else you'd like to tell us?
Not right now...
Have any questions? Does anyone make Migas here? I can make them but I like to eat them sometimes outside of the home. ;o)

-Sara
